Travel Alert for Ghana

According to WHO, Ghana’s Ministry of Health has reported more than 200 cases of meningococcal meningitis within the known meningitis belt region of northern Ghana, primarily in Upper West Region, since January 1, 2015.


The epidemic threshold has been surpassed since mid-January 2015.

Vaccination is recommended for travelers to the affected area during the dry season (December through June) and the northern region, as well as for all children and health care workers throughout the year for the entire country.
